We flew to New Zealand in November 2024, rented a Cessna 172 from Tauranga Aero Club and launched on 12 days trip through the North and South Islands. It did a require a license validation and becoming familiar with New Zealand regulations, airspace, ATC phraseology and local procedures. While the uncontested highlight of the trip was flight and landing in Milford Sound, we spent wonderful time in Wanaka, Nelson, Wellington and Blenheim. Southern Alps are spectacular, with Mt Cook towering over 12,000 feet and that is starting from sea level, unlike Sierras and Rockies in USA, where the terrain elevation is already 6000 feet. Plentiful mountain lakes add even more splendor to majestic mountains in the background.
Make sure you watch the Milford Sound video below and read my blog about that trip.
